Chelsea moved to the top of the English premiership when they defeated Reading by 4-2 at the Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Frank Lampard scored the first goal of the game via an 18th minute penalty. Eden Hazard was fouled by a Reading defender before Lampard scored his second goal in two games. Meanwhile, Reading took the game to the Londoners and they were 2-1 up be the 30th minute. Pogrebnyak scored a superb header after he brushed aside a challenge from Gary Cahill. Danny Guthrie's 30th minute free kick was bundled into the net by Petr Cech. Reading almost made it 3-1, but Cech denied Pogrebnyak in the closing minutes of the first half.
Second Half
After the restart, Chelsea started the game on a fast pace, but the visitors stood their ground at the back. Gary Cahill scored a briliant goal from 30 yards in the 60th minute. Fredrici failed to make a routine save on that occasion. In the 81st minute, Torres put Chelsea in front when he found himself behind Ian Harte who was the last Reding player. The offside trap was beaten by the Spaniard to make it 3-2. Reading keeper left his goal post to join his team for a corner kick. Torres and Eden Hazard led a counter attack and Cole squared up Ivanovic to tap in the ball into an empty net. Chelsea played the game due to the up coming UEFA Super Cup match against Atletico Madrid.
