FIFAU-17 Women’s World Cup-Azerbaijan 2012


The biennial football tournament for under 17 ladies across the world starts on Saturday in Azerbaijan. Action will be witnessed in groups A and B. The cities of Baku and Lankaran are the venues for these group matches.
2008 Champions, North Korea will face Gambia in the opening match of the tournament at 13.00 local time. The West Africans will be making their debut at their first ever FIFA Women tournament.

In the city of Lankaran, the USA will attempt to beat France as they begin their campaign to win the only tournament that has remained elusive in the nation’s rich women’s football history. USA defeated Slovenia by 2-1 in a recent friendly. They also won the CONCACAF championship in Guatemala without conceding a goal. The previous meeting France and USA ended in a 1-1 draw at New Zealand 2008.

Colombia will seek their first win when they face the host country (Azerbaijan) in the last match of the day.
Nigeria will slug it out with Canada. The Africans were eliminated by South Korea by 6-5 at the quarter final 2010 edition.

Summer Green of the USA is a goal poacher that has been tipped to win the golden boot award. She scored a total of 12 goals at the CONCACAF tournament.
