Major Soccer Events of the year 2013
JANUARY
The FIFA Gala award night will be held in Zurich on January 7th,2013.
South Africa 2013
The 29th edition of the African Cup of Nations will kick off on 19th January, 2013 in Johannesburg. Sixteen African nations will participate at the three weeks tournament. Zambia are the defending champions of the competition.

Euro Leagues second half
The second half of the major leagues in Europe will commence. The German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1, Italian Serie A and Spanish Primera Liga will enter their second stage in January.
One major fixture to look out for is the clash between Manchester United and Liverpool at the Old Trafford on January 13th.
In England, the semi-final matches of the Capital One Cup will be played. Bradford City will face Aston Villa while Swansea City will slug it out with Chelsea.

FEBRUARY
The final of the AFCON 2013 will be played in Johannesburg on February 10th, 2013. The winners will represent Africa at the FIFA Confederations Cup.
The prestigious UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League will resume. Sixteen teams are left in the Champions League. One of the mouth-watering fixtures to look out for is the clash between Manchester United and Real Madrid. The tie between FC Barcelona and AC Milan will be another delightful match to watch.  Chelsea, Manchester City and Ajax are some big names that will be missing in the last 16.

The League cup final will also be played at the Wembley stadium in London.

MARCH
The first round of matches in the CAF Champions League 2013 season will be played. Kano Pillars and Rangers are the two clubs that will be representing Nigeria in the tournament. The CAF Confederations Cup will equally start in the same month. AC Leopards are the defending champions.
Meanwhile, Al  Ahly of Egypt and Esperance of Tunisia are some of the top clubs that will join their counterparts in the third round of the CAF Champions League.
One of the cadet African soccer championships will also be played in March, 2013. The African Youth Championship for under 20 teams will be hosted by Morocco. The 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers will resume in this month.


APRIL
The UEFA Champions League will reach its semi-final stage. Some champions of Euro Leagues would have emerged by this month. The Spanish Primera Liga and Bundesliga champions would have been known by then.

MAY
The final of the English FA Cup and several other cup competitions will be played across Europe. The Europa League and Champions League finals will be played in May, 2013. The UCL final will take place on the 25th of May at the Wembley Stadium in London, England.
The Amsterdam Arena will be used as the venue of the Europa League on May 15.

JUNE
The summer transfer window opens on June 1st, 2013.
On the 15th of June, the FIFA Confederations Cup will commence in Brazil. The tournament is held every four years to test the readiness of the host nation of the World Cup, while the continental champions of Africa, Europa, Asia, Oceania, North America and Latin America will all converge to compete for the Champion of Champions title.
On the 21st of June, the World Youth Championship for under 20 teams will kick off in Turkey.

JULY
On the 13th day of the month, the new FIFA under 20 WYC winners will be unveiled in Turkey.
Several players will switch their clubs around the world.
The FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers will continue across different regions of the world.

AUGUST
The new2013-2014 English Premier League season will commence in August. The world’s most glamorous league has produced finalists in the Champions League in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012. Each of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea won a trophy over that period.
The Scottish Premier League action will also resume to the screens in Scotland. It is uncertain whether an alternative league would have been carved out of the current SPL by then.
The UEFA Super Cup match will be played between the winners of the UCL and the Europa League.

SEPTEMBER
The2013-2014 leagues in Spain, Germany, France and Italy will commence in September 2013. The African qualifiers for the Brazil 2014 World Cup would have almost emerged by then. Asia is likely to be the first continent that would have produced a World cup qualifier by then.  
The UEFA Champions League group phase will commence this month.

OCTOBER
October 17, 2013 is the kick off date for theU-17 FIFA World Youth Championship in UAE. The Emirates nation also hosted the tournament a decade ago. Spain won that year’s edition. Cesc Fabregas was a notable star at UAE 2003.
The CAF Champions League semi-final will be played in this month. Teams from North Africa are highly favoured to get to this stage due to their antecedents in African club football.

NOVEMBER
Several countries would have qualified for the Brazil 2014 World Cup. The final of the CAF Champions League will be played over two legs, while two rounds of UEFA Champions League games will also be played in November.
The under 17 Champions of the World will be crowned in the United Arab Emirates on 8th November.

DECEMBER
The FIFA Club World Cup Championship will be played this month. FC Corinthians of Brazil won the 2012 edition in Japan after a 1-0 win over Chelsea.
