Flying Eagles qualifies for FIFA under 20 world cup

The reigning African under 20 youth champions, Nigeria have qualified for the forth coming FIFA under 20 World Youth Championship in Turkey. The Flying Eagles booked their place at the biennial tournament after a 3-1 win over DR Congo in Algeria. The defending champions lost their first game of the on-going African Youth Championship in Algeria. Gabon went down 1-0 to John Obuh's team in the second match before yesterday's victory.

This will be Nigeria's fifth consecutive appearance at the FIFA World Youth Championship since the year 2005.

Nigeria will take on Egypt in one of the two semi final matches on Tuesday. The North Africans won the title in 2003 before Nigeria dethroned them in 2005. Both sides played friendlies prior to this tournament. Nigeria won the first match 3-1 before playing a 0-0 draw in the second friendly.

The junior Pharaohs of Egypt finished at the top of the group A table with 9 points.
