Nigeria crush Tahiti in Brazil

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Tahiti by 6-1 in Belo Horizonte,Brazil. The African champions were overwhelming favourites to win the match based on their current FIFA rankings, The eagles are ranked 31st in the World while the French Polynesia nation is ranked 108th in the world.

Stephen Keshi's men started the match on a very good note by scroing twice within the first 10 minutes of the match. Elderson Echiejile's shot was deflected into the net after 5 minutes of action. On the 10th minute, Nnamdi Oduamadi scored his second international goal for his country by making it 2-0 after a dribbling past two defenders.

The tiny Oceania nation grew in confidence as the Nigerians showed signs of fatigue after a troubled travelling arrangement that was orchestrated by the failure of the Nigerian Football
Federation to pay $5000 to each of the players after the 1-1 World cup qualifier match against Namibia.

Oduamadi made it 3-0 before the end of the first half.


After the restart, Tahiti scored a memorable goal in the 55th minute of play. A corner kick was nodded in at the far post to deny Vincent Enyeama a clean sheet on the night. An own goal from a Tahiti defender and further goals from Oduamadi and Echiejile were enough for Nigeria to recorded their highest ever scoreline in a senior FIFA tournament.

Ahmed Musa and Brown Ideye missed several scoring opportunities while Mikel Obi lost the ball in the middle of the pack. The Nigerians will take on Uruguay in San Salvador on Thursday.
