The Barclays English premier league continued over the weekend as Chelsea dropped two vital points at the Stadium of Light.
The Londoners were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland. Jose Mourinho's men are still on top of the table after 13 round of matches.

At the Saint Mary's stadium, Southampton were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City. The defending champions played a larger part of the second half with just 10 men after Mangala was sent off.
The one man shortage couldn't prevent Manuel Pellegrini's from grabbing the vital points that took them to the second spot on the EPL log standings.

In other games, Manchester United crushed Hull City by 3-0 at the Old Trafford stadium while Liverpool laboured to overcome Stoke City by a Glen Johnson's goal.
The Englishman nodded in the ball after a rebound that followed Rickie Lambert's effort.

Arsenal moved into the top 5 with a 1-0 away win against West Bromwich Albion. Danny Welbeck's header was enough to see off a resolute West Brom team at The Hawthorns.

Roberto Soldado scored his first league goal in 8 months as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Everton by 2-1 at the White Hart Lane.

Newcastle United suffered an uncommon defeat in the hands of West Ham United at the Upton Park. The Magpies had won about four games in a row before that 1-0 reverse.

At the Liberty stadium, Swansea City settled for a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

Burnley and Aston Villa also played a one all draw.

Week 14 matches takes place on December 2nd/3rd.

Leicester City will host Liverpool while Manchester United will host Stoke City.

The Anfield giants will be without Balotelli,Suso and Flanagan due to injury, while Sakho won't be fit to start the match.
After winning the 2013 edition of the African cup of Nations in South Africa, a steady fall was noticed in the performance of the team.

Just a month after the continental victory, Nigeria forced Kenya to a 1-1 draw in a World cup qualifier that was played in Calabar in March 2013.

The team have lacked coordination ever since February 2013. The team had a poor performance at the FIFA Confederations cup in Brazil where they lost 2 of their 3 group games.

After managing to overcome Ethiopia,Kenya and Namibia ensure route Brazil 2014 World cup, the Eagles lost a couple of friendlies against Greece, USA and Jordan.

The 2015 Nations cup qualifier started in September with Nigeria losing at home to Congo Brazaville by 3-2. A goalless draw against South Africa and a 1-0 loss to Sudan made it almost impossible for the team to book a place at the AFCON 2015 tournament.

Victories over Sudan in Calabar and a 2-0 away win over Congo Brazaville revived the hopes of Nigerian fans, but a shocking 2-2 home draw nailed the coffin on the crooked Super Eagles team.

It's still unclear why Keshi decided to invite Emmanuel Emenike who had failed to score an international goal since February 2013.

Kenneth Omeruo was forced to play the match in Uyo despite having an injury. Azubuike Egwueke had been a suspect in the Nigerian defence for a long time and Keshi paid dearly for it as the South Africans got an impressive draw.

Nigeria's president actually facilitated the return of Keshi after NFF had failed to extend his contract.

South Africa had earlier won the group before playing their final qualification match in Nigeria, but the African champions failed to capitalise on home advantage as they played out a 2-2 draw at the Nest of champions stadium.
inspired news
The visitors took the lead in the 42nd minute after Nigeria had missed several chances. Ahmed Musa rattled the crossbar in the early minutes of the encounter.

The free flowing style of play exhibited by the South Africans unsettled the sluggish and weak Nigerian defence line.
The quartet of Juwon Oshaniwa,Azubuike Egwueke, Kenneth Omeruo and Efe Ambrose couldn't prevent the 1996 champions from claiming a point in Uyo.

Omatsone Aluko scored a brace to earn Nigeria a 2-2 draw at home.

Stephen Keshi was earlier sacked by the Nigerian Football Federation after a poor showing in the first four matches of the campaign.

The team eventually finished 3rd with 8 points from 6 games.

The strong headed Keshi refused to invite top Nigerian players like Victor Anichebe, Chinedu Ogbuke and Sammy Amoebi.

The defending champions won't be in Equatorial Guinea between January 19th and February 2015.

The premier league match kicked off during lunch time on Saturday 25th October 2014 with both sides in the top four.

Manuel Pellegrini's men were placed second before the match while Sam Allardyce's London club were fourth.

Morgan Amalfitano put the home team in front after 22 minutes of action in which Joe Hart had made a couple of saves for City.

Enner Valencia's cut back was converted by Morgan from close range.

Despite having 67% of the ball possession, Manchester City failed to break down the Hammers and went into the break by a goal down.
Comprehensive news
After the restart, the hosts managed to prevent the league champions from breaching their defence.

Diafra Sakho made it 2-0 to West Ham in the 75th minute after going close three minutes earlier.

Aguero's effort came off the crossbar in the 65th minute before Sakho scored his sixth consecutive league goal.

David Silva scored a brilliant goal in the 77th minute, but that was not enough to deny West Ham United a famous victory.

Jelavic and Toure failed ti equalise for the visitors during injury time.

The Londoners defeated Liverpool by 3-1 a month ago.
The ex international took over the mantle of the Super Eagles gaffer in December 2011 after the nation failed to book a ticket to the AFCON 2012 tournament.

Nigeria won the African cup of nations under his tutelage in a tournament that was hosted in South Africa last year. The team laboured to go beyond the group stage of the tournament after playing draw against Burkina Faso and Zambia.

Victor Moses scored a brace in their last group match against Ethiopia before the team went on to claim the African title for the first time in 19 years.

In June 2013, Nigeria participated at the FIFA Confederations cup that was held in Brazil. The team beat Tahiti by 6-1, but lost their games against Spain and Uruguay.

The NFF decided to appoint a technical adviser that will assist Keshi, but the former Togo manager, rejected the offer as he claimed that there was no need to get a foreign assistance.

Sylvanus Okpala that assisted him had been fired by the board due to financial and disciplinary issues.

Where did Keshi go wrong?
Stephen Keshi was at loggerheads with the top players in the team. He accused players like Ikechukwu Uche, Peter Odemwingie and Obafemi Martins of indiscipline and lack of commitment.

Uche's case was more pronounced because of his scintillating form in the Spanish league, but he was ignored by Keshi.

The manager refused to update his knowledge and his lack of technical depth affected the team's performance against established sides like USA, Greece, Scotland and Ireland.

Keshi also led the home based team to the third place at CHAN 2014 event. He chose a 3rd choice goal keeper in a club as the national team's first choice at the mundial. He eventually conceded 8 goals.

His poor tactics also led him to replace an injured Elderson Echiejile with a midfielder.

Finally, his poor form in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers where his wards picked just 4 points from a possible 12 nailed his coffin.

The Super Eagles can still make it to Morocco 2015 if they beat Congo Brazaville and South Africa in November.

Manchester United has started the 2014-2015 English premier league season with a shocking 2-1 home defeat against Swansea City.

Louis Van Gaal was hoping to start his career at Old Trafford on a bright note, but Monk's men had other ideas. The Welsh team took the lead through Ki Sung Yueng in the 28th minute against the run of play. Phil Jones forced Lukasz Fabianski to make a great safe in the first half.

The Red devils were not too impressive and didn't show the sign of a team that is ready to make the top four at the end of the season. Javier Hernandez, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney were on the starting line up, but Swansea didn't give them the chance to create clear cut chances.

It was a match that witnessed just four corner kicks that were taken by the home side. The last time United lost a match on the opening day of the league was in 1972. While the Welsh team also claimed their first victory over their fancied hosts for the first time in 83 years.

The former Dutch manager deployed a 3-5-2 formation that also featured Ashley Young. The Englishman later got injured and was replaced by Lingard.

After the restart, Rooney got the equaliser for the home side. The captain scored via a scissors kick to revive the hope of the Old Trafford faithfuls. He was denied a brace when his free kick came off the crossbar,

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the winning goal for Swansea after United defenders failed to take clear their lines.

Garry Monk's men recorded the first three points of the new season.

The football association of Lesotho seems to have pulled the country's under 20 national team out of the scheduled African Youth Championship qualifier against Nigeria.

The ebola virus disease that is currently ravaging some parts of West Africa is the reason for this decision. Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea have recorded over 1000 deaths in the last few months while Nigeria have witnessed the death of 3 citizens in Lagos. The citizens died after having contact with Patrick Sawyer who died from the same disease. The Liberian flew to Lagos with the disease.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian football federation has claimed that they have not received any official notice from Lesotho. The two countries were billed to play the first leg tie of the final qualifying round for the 2015 African Youth Championship.
Some members of the flying Eagles of Nigeria were part of the under 17 team that won the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2013.
The venue for the proposed match is the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna,Nigeria.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to decide on the overall winner of the tie if Lesotho should boycott the match on Sunday 17th August,2014.

Germany has won this year's edition of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World cup in Brazil. The European country has become the first side to do so on South American soil. The Joachim Loew tutored side overcame a spirited effort that was put up by Argentina in Rio de Janeiro.

It was the third meeting between these two sides in a final. While the Argentines won the 1986 edition, Germany recorded a 1-0 win four years later.

Lionel Messi couldn't re-enact his group stage form against the three time World champions. The Barcelona forward scored in the first four games of the tournament but his goals seems to have dried up after the second round match against Switzerland.

Germany dictated the final match, but they were unable to break down the highly disciplined Alejandro Sabella led team. Gonzalo Higuain had the chance to put the two time champions in front when he got to the end of a through pass, but the Napoli frontman fired the ball wide.

Lionel Messi and Palacio also missed the chance to score against Manuel Neuer who was adjudged the best keeper of the tournament.

Mario Gotze came in as a late substitute for Miroslav Klose and the Bayern Munich player became the hero of the day. He latched on to the ball from the left before beating Sergio Romero on the near post.

Germany has now won the World cup on four occasions. The next mundial will be in Russia in 2018.
The semi final match was played in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday night. Thomas Muller opened the scoring after 12 minutes of action. A corner kick by Miroslav Klose was not defended by the Brazilians and Muller fired in a shot to put the German machine into the lead.

The Brazilian defence was on vacation as the Germans ran riot of an uninspired team. After it was clear that the Brazilians had no idea of breaking down the German defence, the European giants decided to create some records.
Contacts backup
Klose became the highest goal scorer in the history of the tournament. The Lazio striker scored his 16th World cup goal after the Brazilians failed to clear a lose ball in the penalty box.

That goal came in the 23rd goal while the Brazilians were ball watching. They seem to have forgotten how to play football.

Toni Kroos made it 3-0 in the 24th minute. Two minutes later, he made it 4-0. A sweeping move in the 26th minute was too smooth for the Europeans to handle.

Sami Khedira made it 5-0 in the 29th minute via a well taken shot by his left foot.

Four goals were scored within a space of 6 minutes as the Brazilian fans couldn't hold back their tears. Felipe Scolari ran for cover when he became dazed by the rampaging Germans.

In the second half Andre Schuerrle scored brace in 10 minutes. His first goal came in the 68th minute after the hosts failed to thwart a sweet move by the Joachim Loew's men. The Chelsea player made it 7-0 with an emphatic effort in the 78th minute. He got to the end of a ball on the edge of the penalty box and released a shot that went in through the underside of the crossbar.

Fred and Fernadinho were substituted after the restart. Fred, Hulk,Luiz, Dante and Bernard were appalling to watch. Mesut Ozil missed a golden in the 89th minute before Oscar scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute. Final score: 7-1

Scolari was also in charge of the Portuguese team that was hammered by 4-1 in the third place in the 2006.

The Eagles of Mali are gradually getting close to the summit of African football. The team finished third at the AFCON tournament in 2013 after beating Ghana in the losers final. They are seeking for their first World cup appearance. Seydou Keita is the most successful player to have come from that country. Frederick Kanoute won the African player of the year in 2007 while playing for Sevilla.

Morocco
The Atlas lions of Morocco will host the 2015 edition of the AFCON tournament in January. Rabat is the capital city of this beautiful North African nation. The national team has played at the World cup and also emerged as African kings in 1976. Raja Casablanca has won the CAF champions league while FAR Rabat can also boast of winning the CAF confederations cup in 2004. Nurudeen Naybet and Mostapha Hadji are the most successful players from Morocco. Hadji was the best player on the continent in 1998.

Argentina will play against Netherlands in an explosive encounter. The South Americans have won the tournament on two occasions, while the Dutch side have lost their two finals in 1978 and 2010.

They actually lost the 1978 final against a Diego Maradona inspired team. This time around, Lionel Messi will be the focal point of the 'Albaceleste'. Messi has scored four goals in Brazil and he will be expected to play a key role in taming the 'Oranje' of Netherlands on Wednesday.

Coach of the Argentine team,Sabella could feature Sergio Aguero in this fixture. The Manchester City striker has missed the last two matches due to a groin injury he sustained against Nigeria. He will be subjected to a late fitness test. No one can guarantee that the ex-Atletico de Madrid player will be influential against Louis Van Gaal's men.
Angel Di Maria is out of the World cup and he won't be expected to play a part in Wednesday's fixture. The Real Madrid striker got injured in the game against Belgium.

The Europeans
Netherlands overcame a dogged Costa Rican team in the quarter final on Saturday via penalties. The trio of Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneidjer and Robin Van Persie will lead the Dutch assault in Sao Paulo. RVP and Robben have scored 3 goals each.

This is the third World cup semi final in the last five appearances for Netherlands. Louis Van Gaal will obviously replace Clissen with Tim Krul if this match should go beyond 90 minutes and extra time.

ChatSoccer predicts a 3-2 win for Netherlands.

The captain was booked in the last eight fixture against Colombia. On the other hand, Neymar had a fracture in his vertebrae. The Barcelona forward could have been paralysed for life if Zuniga had raised his leg by just 2.3cm.

Coach Luis Felipe Scolari is expected to name Willian as Neymar's replacement.

The Joachim Low tutored German side will try and avenge the defeat the country suffered in the 2002 World cup final in Yokohama. Germany were beaten 2-0 by the Brazilians.

The Europeans overcame France by a lone goal on Friday afternoon. Matt Hummels was on target in that match and he is expected to be on the starting line up against Brazil. Thomas Muller will be opportuned to add to his four goal tally after the ouster of Colombia's James Hernandez.

Lionel Messi and Ahmed Musa both scored braces for their countries in Argentina's 3-2 win over Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon. The four times World best player scored his first goal of the game in the third minute. The Barcelona forward fired a loose ball into the net after Nigerian defenders failed to clear Angel Di Maria's shot.

A minute later, Ahmed Musa scored the equaliser for the reigning African champions. He received a pass from Michael Babatunde and curled in a shot round Romero that was in goal for the Argentines.

Messi made it 2-1 to Argentina shortly before the end of the first half. He curled a free kick over the defence wall and into the far corner of the Nigerian net.
Argentina will face Switzerland in the round of 16 while Nigeria will meet France.
Crunching fixtures were placed across different match centres at the ongoing FIFA World cup in Brazil. Costa Rica continued their Cinderella run by recording a 1-0 victory over Italy in Recife. The Central Americans are now on top of group D with six points.
Mario Balotelli missed several scoring chances in that encounter while Buffon couldn't have a clean sheet on his return from injury.

Group E

Arena Fonte Nova stadium was the venue of the seven goal thriller between Switzerland and France. Didier Deschamps' men were very dominant throughout the game. Olivier Giroud scored the first goal for the 1998 champions before Valbuena,Sissoko and Karim Benzema added their goals. Benzema also missed a penalty in the first half.

The Swiss side scored two consolatory goals as the scoreline ended 5-2. France are now on top of group E with 6 points from two matches. Honduras were beaten 2-1 by Ecuador in an entertaining match that took place at the Arena de Baixada in Curitiba.

Group F
Argentina struggled to edge Iran by a lone goal in a match that was played at the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte. The two time World champions laboured to break down a resolute Iranian defence for 90 minutes. Carlos Quieroz's Asian team were denied penalties by the centre referee. Romero was called into action on some few occasions as the Persian team tried to create an upset, but a last minute moment of magic from Lionel Messi was enough for Argentina to claim all the three points at stake.

Sabella's team are currently on top of the group standings with 6 points.

The Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba was the host venue for the encounter between Nigeria and Bosnia&Herzegovina. The African side recorded their first win in 16 years by claiming a controversial victory over Bosnia. Peter Odemwingie scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute of action after Emmanuel Emenike has out-muscled a Bosnian defender on the right wing.

Edin Dzeko's goal was erroneously ruled out for offside. The Manchester City striker was furious after the match and alleged that the referee robbed his team of victory. Nigeria are now second in the group with 4 points.

Group G
Germany and Ghana played a 2-2 draw in Fortaleza. The encounter took place at the Estadio Castelao where Germany took the lead through a header from Mario Gotze. Andre Ayew equalised for Ghana before Gyan Asamoah put the African team in front the second half. Joachim Loew's German team were on the brink of suffering a shock defeat before Miroslav Klose came off the bench to equalise for the Germans. Klose has now equalled Ronaldo da Lima's 15 goal record in the World cup. The Germans are now on 4 points.

On Sunday night, Portugal scored a last minute goal to deny USA a memorable win. Nani's 5th minute goal seems to be the motivation that Bento's team needed to erase the memories of their 4-0 demolition against Germany, but the American scored two second half goals through Jermaine Jones and Clint Dempsey. The American were less than 10 seconds away from victory, but Cristiano Ronaldo provided a nice cross that was nodded into the back of the net. Portugal are at the bottom of the group.
Group H
The dismal outing of African teams at the ongoing FIFA World cup in Brazil continued on Tuesday night. The Fennec foxes of Algerian lost their opening group match to Belgium by 2-1. The 1990 African champions took the lead midway through the first half when Jan Vertoghen brought down an Algerian player in the penalty box.

Courtious was sent the wrong way by the Algerian player that converted from the penalty spot. The Belgians failed to make any reasonable impact in the first hlaf of the match, while the Africans failed to extend their lone goal lead.

Marc Wilmots men' started the second half on a good note by dictating the pace of the game. After a while, Maroune Fellaini nodded in the equaliser after getting to the end of a beautiful cross from the left wing.

The team scored the winning goal through a spectacular shot the was taken by Martens.

Ghana also lost their group match against the United States of America on Monday. The four time African champions fell behind by a lone goal after Clint Dempsey put the Americans in front within 31 seconds of action. His goal is the fifth fastest goal in World cup history. Michael Bradley ,Johnson and a host of other USA players marshalled the midfield and prevented Asamoah Gyan from troubling their defence.

After the commencement of the second half, the USA soccer team conceded an 82nd minute goal that was scored by Andre Ayew, but the leveller didn't last. Four minutes later, Brooks scored the winning goal for Jurgen Klinsman's men as Ghana suffered a huge loss in their bid to go beyond the group stage of Brazil 2014.
Portugal and Germany are the other teams in Ghana's group.
Drab draw in Fortaleza
Brazil settled for a goalless draw in their pulsating encounter against the El Tri of Mexico. The five time World champions couldn't put the ball behind the goal of Guillermo Ochoa. Neymar and other Brazilians players were unable to beat the former Ajaccio shot stopper despite firing several shots at him.

The match between Brazil and Mexico finished goalless.

Akinfeev's blemish erased
Russia played out a 1-1 draw against South Korea in group H. The 2018 World cup hosts went behind after Akinfeev failed to make a routine save, but the Russians got an equaliser went the Korean keeper failed to parry a shot that was fired towards the goal later in the match.

Germany beat Portugal by 4-1 in the third place match of the 2006 World cup.

Joachim Low guided the Germans to a 4-0 win over Bento's team. Thomas Muller scored a hat trick while Matt Hummels also got his name on the scorers sheet.

Muller has now scored a total of 8 goals in his three world cup appearances.

The Bayern Munich attacker scored the first goal through a penalty while Hummels doubled the lead. Muller nade it 3-0 before the end of the first half.
Pepe was sent off after his crazy attack on a German player.

Cristiano Ronaldo was not given the chance to impose himself on the match. Nani tried to unlock the German defence, but Lahm and his team mates didn't allow Manuel Neuer to do much work.

USA and Ghana are the other teams in the group.

The team drew against Mexico, Scotland and Greece in their pre tournament games before losing by 2-1 against USA.

The uninspiring African champions didn't play like a team that had a game plan or a reputable manager despite dominating the possession by 70%.

Victor Moses showed that he has not been in action for a larger part of the season.

John Mikel Obi was a boring midfielder that seems to have lost interest in football while Ahmed Musa failed to make use of his pace.
Godfrey Oboabona got injured after 30 minutes of action and he was replaced by Joseph Yobo.

The Iranians had just one shot on goal throughout the encounter. Shola Amoebi came in to replace Moses.

Carlos Quieroz set up his team to defend while Keshi showed his lack of technical ability. Peter Odemwingie was introduced into the match towards the end of the game.

The Stoke City striker showed why he shouldn't be left on the bench, but it was too late for him to rescue Nigeria from getting all the three points at stake.

The Nigerian Football Federation should start thinking of getting a coach with a better technical ability.

Final score: Iran 0-0 Nigeria
