Liverpool v Cardiff preview

LFC players are hopeful of winning  the League Cup.

Liverpool will attempt to end their trophy drought when the 7 time League Cup Champions take on Welsh side-Cardiff City in Sunday's final. The Kenny Dalglish's tutored side have been in great form right from the beginning of their League Cup campaign. The Merseyside club have beaten teams like Brighton,Stoke City,Chelsea and Manchester City to get to this stage. Luis Suarez has scored three goals in this competition. The last time Liverpool won the League Cup was in 2001 under former French manager-Houlier. The Reds won a treble in that year. Liverpool's 3-2 aggregate win over Manchester City in the semi final came in the same month they lost 3-0 to the Citizens in the Barclays Premiership.
This will be Liverpool's first final at the Wembley Stadium since 1995. The old Wembley was pulled down in 2000. Liverpool's FA Cup trophies in 2001 and 2006 were won at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, while they lost the 2003 and 2005 League Cup finals to Chelsea at the same venue.
The likes of Andy Carroll,Jordan Henderson,Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing will be glad to be Liverpool players at this point in time. They will have the chance to win their first ever silverware in their club careers.
Cardiff City defeated Crystal Palace on penalties in the semifinal of the League Cup. The Welsh team have won 9 of their 12 meetings with Liverpool. The last match between these two sides ended in a 2-1 win for Liverpool in October 2007.
