Seven star Bayern crush Basel as Gomez makes headline.

German International, Mario Gomez was the star attraction of the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and FC Basel of Switzerland at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night. Gomez scored four goals as his team created a new record for scoring the highest number of goals in the knockout phase of the competition. The highest margin record was being held by Manchester United and Barcelona before the Bavarians raised to bar to set a new 7-0 record. Dutch International, Arjen Robben opened the scoring after 11 minutes. Guided Muller's shot into the net. Thomas Muller volleyed a shot past the Basel keeper after 42 minutes of action before Gomez made it 3-0 shortly before half time.

In the second half, Frank Ribery provided an assist for Mario Gomez to make it four nil in the 50th minute. The duo exchanged passes before Ribery's cross was easily nodded on the hour mark. Seven minutes later, another perfect combination between these two players resulted in another goal that was scored by the German striker. Arjen Robben grabbed his brace in the 81st minute when he rounded Sommer (Basel keeper) before slotting home from 6 yards. Mario Gomez is now the tournament's second top scorer with 11 goals, Messi still leads the scorers' chart with 12 goals. Gomez has now scored seven goals in his last two matches. The German International scored a hat trick last weekend.
