Steven Gerrard became the first man to score a hat trick in the Mersey side derby at the Anfield Road for the first time in 77 years. Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez were on the starting line up for Liverpool as the Reds defeated Everton by three goals to nil on Tuesday night. Gerrard marked his 400th Premier League game in style. Martin Kelly's shot was parried away by Tim Howard, but Gerrard lobbed the ball over the American International goalkeeper and other retracting defenders to put Liverpool ahead after 34 minutes. In the second half, the Reds captain increased his goal tally by taking off the toes of Luis Suarez before firing a shot into the roof of the net in the 50th minute.
His hat trick was completed in the final minute of injury time when Suarez crossed the ball for him to tap into the net. Liverpool have now two points behind sixth placed Newcastle United and they will face Stoke City in the quarter final of the FA Cup next Sunday. David Moyes has never won a match at Anfield since he took over as the manager of the team a decade ago.
