Nations Cup qualifier news

The Lone Stars of Liberia forced the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 2-2 draw in Monrovia. The home side took the lead against the run of play after nine minutes of action. Nosa Igiebor scored the equaliser for Stephen Keshi's team before Victor Moses was brought down in the penalty box.

The Chelsea winger created a lot of problems for the Liberians and Ikechukwu Uche stepped up to convert Moses' penalty in the 20th minute.

In the second half, Liberia scored an equaliser to make it 2-2. The second leg will come up in four weeks time.


Meanwhile, the Black stars of Ghana defeated the flames of Malawi by 2-0 at the Accra sports complex. The Ghanaians have not won the Nations cup since 1982. They'll travel to Blantyre for the second leg of the tie next month.

Cape Verde pulled a big surprise in their match against the indomitable lions of Cameroon. The Portuguese speaking nation won by two goals to nil. Samuel Eto'o had earlier refused to play for the four time champions after his eigth month ban was lifted by the Cameroonian football authority.

In Bamako, Mali defeated Mozambique 3-0 while Sierra Leone played a 2-2 draw against Tunisia.


In Lusaka, the 'Chipolopolo' of Zambia defeated the Cranes of Uganda by 1-0. Gabon and Togo played a 1-1 draw in Libreville. Emmanuel Adebayor was on target for the Togolese.
