Martin Skrtel replaced Jamie Carragher in the central defence, while Suso replaced Nuri Sahin who played against Chelsea last weekend.

Aroune Kone and Franco Di Santo led the attack for Wigan Athletic. Jose Enrique and Daniel Agger went close to giving Liverpool the lead in the first half, but their efforts weren't good enough to beat Al-Habsi.  Daniel Agger nodded Gerrard's corner over the bar and Enrique dragged his shot wide within the penalty area.
