Man City cruise to victory at the Etihad

Manchester City have cut the gap between them and United back to 12 points after a 2-0 over Chelsea on Sunday. Roberto Mancini's men showed a lot of desire to win the match and their commitment paid off with a vital win over Rafael Benitez's men.

Frank Lampard missed what could have been his 200th goal for Chelsea after Joe Hart brought down Demba Ba earlier in the second half.

Rafael Benitez replaced Fernando Torres with Demba Ba on his starting line up after Thursday's 1-1 draw against Sparta Prague of Czech Republic. The first half started with the hosts launching series of attacks on their visitors. City were far better than their opponents, but they failed to find the cutting edge. The Citizens paid a lot of attention towards the right back position of Chelsea.

Mancini's men tried to penetrate through that end before crossing the ball to their strikers from the other end of the pitch.

In the second half, Chelsea rose up to the occasion by trying to contain the rampaging City strikers. On the 50th minute mark, Joe Hart came out to challenge Demba Ba, the English goalkeeper eventually committed a foul that sent the Senegalese player to the turf.
Carlos Tevez off the bench to score the second goal

The resultant penalty kick was saved by Hart. Ten minutes later, Yaya Toure gave City the lead. The Ivorian midfielder collected the ball from David Silva before finding his way past two Chelsea defenders. Gary Cahill 's effort to block him proved disastrous as his Toure's shot took a deflection off the England defender.

Benitez effected a substitution by introducing Victor Moses and Fernando Torres. The latter replaced John Mikel Obi. The substitution came after Mancini had introduced Carlos Tevez into the game.

With five minutes left, Carlos Tevez scored his 11th goal of the season with a thunderous shot that gave Petr Cech no chance at all.
