A few months ago when Sunderland finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Capital One cup final, ChatSoccer reported that the Europa League ticket would be given to Sunderland because of the top four status of Manchester City.
Last weekend, the English FA explained the distribution of European slots to clubs for the 2014/15 season. The top four teams will expected play in the UEFA champions league while Everton (5th placed team) will play in the Europa League. The FA cup winner will also play in the Europa League, but if Arsenal should win it, the slot will go to Hull City while the 6th placed team will take the remaining slot.
Where does this leave Sunderland?
Manchester City has finished in top four and the FA has awarded it to the 6th placed team(currently Tottenham). Meanwhile, Manchester United can snatch the slot from Spurs if the Red devils win on Sunday while Tottenham lose their match.
