The Spanish team were very dominant throughout the game, but the Italians were good enough to prevent them from causing any damage in their goal area.

Kevin Boateng gave the hosts the lead in a controversial circumstance before Sulley Muntari sealed AC Milan's victory with nine minutes to go. The second goal was scored after a successful counter attack by the Italians.

Barcelona must win the return leg by3-0 if they are to progress to the next stage of Europe's top club competition.
