Liverpool and Manchester United will slug it out in one of the star games of the weekend in the Barclays Premiership. This will be the first home match for Liverpool after the final release of the Hillsborough disaster report which absorbed the fans of the club from any wrong doing on the day 96 of them lost their lives in one of the worst tragedy in the history of British football.
The Reds have only gained two points from the four league games they've played this season. They started their campaign with a 3-0 loss at The Hawthorns before a 2-2 draw against Manchester City. Arsenal inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Brendan Rodgers team about three weeks ago while Sunderland forced the reigning Carling Cup holders to a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.
Luis Suarez is Liverpool's top scorer with two league goals while Reina is one of the poorest keepers after four round of games. The Spaniard has conceded a total of eight goals. The Reds are without a senior striker for the first time in the history of the club. Jonjo Shelvey will be expected to transfer his magnificent Europa League form to the EPL. The 20 year old scored a brace to give his side a 5-3 win in Switzerland.
Suarez-Evra handshake
All eyes will be on the duo of Luis Suarez and Partice Evra when their team mates file out against one another before the official kick off time. Suarez was banned for eight matches after he was found guilty of a racial abuse against Patrice Evra at the Anfield Road last season. The duo will be meeting each other at the same venue for the first time since they failed to shake each other's hands before Liverpool's 2-1 loss at the Old Trafford in March ,2012.
The Visitors.
Manchester United are currently second on the league table after recording three wins from four games. Their first match of the season ended in a 1-0 defeat against another Merseyside club-Everton. Last week's 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic was their best league performance so far. The Red devils also managed to beat Galatasarayof Turkey by a lone goal on Wednesday while Liverpool came from 3-2 down to beat Young Boys of Switzerland by 5-3 in the Europa League.
Wayne Rooney is the major absentee for the visitors while Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie are expected to tear the Liverpool defence into shreds on Sunday afternoon. Man United have scored a total of 10 goals in the league while the Merseyside rivals have only scored thrice this term.
Despite the fact that Liverpool will be playing at home, their lack of a quality striker will continue to hunt them until January. Suarez has been missing a lot of chances while Rodgers seems to have forgotten that Fabio Borini is NOT a winger. Pepe Reina's performance has been poor right from the beginning of the season.
Our prediction
