Shelvey's brace rescues Liverpool in Switzerland

Liverpool FC have started the group phase of this season's Europa League with a 5-3 win over Young Boys of Switzerland. The match was played on Thursday evening in Bern. Brendan Rodgers named a young squad that included Suso,Pacheco and Assaidi. Nuri Sahin and Jamie Carragher were the notable senior members of the team, while Brad Jones replaced Reina between the sticks.

Olama scored an own goal to give the Reds a 1-0 lead after four minutes, the home team grabbed an equaliser in the 38th minute. Andre Wisdom nodded a goal to make ie 2-1 to the visitors at half time.

Turn Around
In the second half, Young Boys scored two goals within the first fifteen minutes as Liverpool's defence collapsed. Meanwhile, Sebastian Coates made it 3-3 in the 70th minute. Nuri Sahin's corner kick was converted by the Uruguayan defender.

Shelvey's brace
Jonjo Shelvey announced his presence on the pitch with a goal in the 75th minute after a good footwork from Henderson. The 20 year old midfielder made it 5-3 in the 85th minute when he fired a low shot that went into the net.

Udinese and Anzhi played a 1-1 draw in the other group match. Liverpool will host Manchester United in an EPL match on Sunday.
