Sturridge sinks Aston Villa

Liverpool recorded their second successive victory in this season's English premiership. Brendan Rodgers have now extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute of action. The move was initiated by Jose Enrique. The Spanish international raced the down the left flank of the visitor's attack and crossed the ball into the penalty area. Phillippe Coutinho sold a dummy to the Villa defence and Daniel Sturridge took the ball round Antonio Luna before finishing with the outside of his foot.

Liverpool took their foot off the pedal in the second half, but that Aston Villa couldn't find an equaliser.

Simon Mignolet made two notable saves in the entire match. Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann tested the Belgian keeper with remarkable efforts in the second half.

This is the first time in five years that Liverpool will have 100% record after the opening two games of the season.

Manchester United will be their next opponent on September 1st.
