When George Gillet and Tom Hicks mismanaged the capital of the most successful British club in Europe, a lot of people thought that was going to be the end of the great club.
The crisis at Anfield led to the exit of Rafael Benitez and some other top players in the 2009-2010 season. Players like Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Albert Riera, Dirk Kuyt, Emiliano Insua and Fernando Torres followed the Spanish tactician out of Liverpool.
Roy Hodgson was brought in the summer of 2010 following the outstanding Europa League run of Fulham in the 2009-2010 season. The current England manager failed to save Liverpool from going further down on the league table. The Reds were placed 12th on the table by January of the year 2011. The new owners of the club-Fenway Sports Group(FSG) ran out of patience and didn't hesitate to sack Hodgson who proved to be unfit to handle a huge club like Liverpool.
Kenny Dalglish who happens to be a club legend was brought in to take over the helm of affairs at Anfield in January 2011. He was given the task of stabilizing the club and ensuring the fans regained confidence in the board. Dalglish did a wonderful job by taking the club from 12th to 6th by the end of the 2010-2011 season.
John Williams Henry and Tom Werner decided to give Dalglish a two year contract. The club legend brought back glory to the Reds. Liverpool got to two cup finals at the end of 2011-2012 season. The Reds won the League cup that was sponsored by Capital One with a penalty shootout victory while they lost to Chelsea in the FA cup final in a controversial manner.
The Reds' equaliser was wrongly cancelled by the centre referee.
Meanwhile, after the appointment of Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2012, calm seems to have returned to Anfield. The Reds are now placed second on the league table after 27 matches. This is the first time in five years that Liverpool will be ranked so high at this stage of the season.
The fantastic work done by Rodgers has really returned the Reds back to the respectable position they used to be.
The most dreadful striking force in the English premier league is certainly the trio of Luis Suarez,Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling. The Uruguayan is the leading scorer with 24 goals followed by his team mate, Sturridge. The Englishman has now scored a total of 18 goals in 20 league appearances.
