Brendan Rodgers has now won his first official game at Anfield. The former Swansea boss seems to have started imparting his game on his new team. Liverpool defeated FC Gomel of Belarus by three goals to nil on Thursday night. New signing, Fabio Borini opened his goal account by putting the Reds in front after 21 minutes of play. Rodgers named a strong starting line up that included Reina,Johnson,Agger,Skrtel,Enrique,Gerrard,Lucas,Shelvey,Downing,Suarez and Borini. The Reds were in total control of the game. Luis Suarez was frequently flagged offside throughout the game. Borini's strike was charismatic of a striker, he latched on to a loose ball in the opposition's defense before putting the ball in a corner of the net. Gerrard was very lively in the midfield as he enjoyed a good cover from Lucas Leiva who had just returned from a long term injury lay off. The second goal was provided by Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan provided a sublime pass that was cooly converted by Gerrard after 41 minutes. Glen Johnson made it three nil in the 72nd minute with a precise shot around the penalty box. Jonjo Shelvey was booked for a foul challenge on a FC Gomel player. The youngster eventually came off for Charlie Adam who couldn't score from a free kick he played later on. The Reds have now qualified for the final play off round of the competition on a 4-0 aggregate win. The first leg ended 1-0 in their favour. Liverpool will welcome Sami Hypia's German team on Sunday afternoon in an International friendly.
