David Villa joins Atletico Madrid

Barcelona have sold David Villa to Atletico Madrid for an accumulated fee of about £6m. The 'Blaugrana' will also have 50% of all future transfers involving the player.

Radamel Falcao joined AS Monaco of France last month and the Copa Del Rey champions are keen to find an adequate repplacement for him.

Atletico finished third in last season's Spanish primera liga.

Villa joined Barcelona from Valencia in 2010 for €40m,but a long term injury forced the Spanish international to lose his place in the starting eleven of the club.

The Spanish striker scored 48 goals in over 100 appearances for the Spanish la liga champions.

UEFA Super cup preview

Chelsea will face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup match that will be played in monaco on Friday night. The Blues won the UEFA Champions League by beating Bayern Munich on penalties at the Allianz Arena on May 19, 2012.

Roberto Di Matteo might give Victor Moses and Cesar Azpilicueta the chance to make their debut for the club. Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres will surely be on the starting line up against the Europa League champions. Torres was a former Atletico player before he joined Liverpool in 2007.

Atletico Madrid won the Europa League in Bucharest on May 9,2012. Radamel Falcao has warmed up for this game with a hat trick in Monday night's 4-0 bashing of Athletic Bilbao. The Colombian also scored a brace in the Europa League final against this same team.

Chelsea must doing everything possible to stop Falcao if they want to win the Super cup for the first time. Atletico defeated Inter Milan in the 2010 edition.

Falcao's brace fires Atletico Madrid to Europa glory.

Radamel Falcao scored a brace to help his side to record a 3-0 win over Marcelo Bielsa's Athleitc Bilbao in Bucharest. The Colombian International opened the scoring after 7 minutes of action in the Romanian capital on Wednesday night.  A fast pace start to the game resulted in a shot that was saved by the Bilbao keeper after 7 minutes, but Radamel Falcao poked home from close range to make it 1-0. The players of Athletic Bilbao failed to up their game and the Madrid club struck again in the 34th minute through the Colombian striker.
He received a nice pass from Arda Turan before he  mesmerized Jon Aurtenexte.
Diego grabbed the winner in die moments when he capitalised on a sloppy defending from Bilbao defenders to put the game beyond Fernando Llorente and his team mates who were made to look ordinary by the vastly experienced Atletico side.

Europa League final preview

Athletic Bilbao will take on Aletico Madrid in an all-Spanish final that will be played later tonight in Bucharest, Romania.Fernando Llorente has scored very important goals against Manchester United, Schalke 04 and Sporting Lisbon en route today's epic final. On the other hand Radamel Falcao has scored 10 goals that has ensured that Atletico Madrid are about to win their second Europa League title in 3 years. Luis Perea has been passed fit to play today's game after a short spell in the treatment room. Diego Simone is expected to stick to his favorite 4-2-3-1 formation for the Madrid club with Falcao playing the role of a lone striker. Adrian and Turan will play on the wings while Diego will play behind the Colombian striker.
Marcelo Bielsa is expected to deploy a 4-3-3 formation for Bilbao. The trio of Susaeta, Llorente and Munain will face the Madrid defence in what promises to be an explosive match in Bucharest. Oscar De Marcos, Iturraspe and Herrera will hold the midfield for Bielsa's men. This will be the first meeting between these two teams in any European competition.

Falcao grabs a brace as Sporting sets European record.

Radamel Falcao lived up to expectations as he scored a brace to take his Europa League goal haul to 10. The Colombian striker was highly instrumental in Atletico Madrid's 4-2 win over Valencia in Madrid on Thursday night. Diego Alves saved shots from Adrian Lopez and Diego of Atletico Madrid in the opening minutes of the game. In the 17th minute, Arda Turan provided a lovely cross for Falcao to nod home his first goal of the night after beating Valencia defenders. Adil Rami made amends for allowing the home side to go in front in the 17th minute. The Frenchman headed the ball towards goal before Jonas tapped home an easy goal to put the scoreline at 1-1. Three minutes into the second half, Atletico doubled their lead when Diego's free kick was headed past Alves who was in goal for the visitors. In the 54th minute, Adrian beat Ruiz and Topal before firing a shot that eluded the Valencia goal keeper.
In the 77th  minute, Radamel Falcao dribbled Ruiz and Mathieu on the edge of the penalty box before he took a shot with his left foot into the far corner. That was the 10th goal of the campaign for the Colombian International. However, Ricardo Costa nodded in a cross to make it 4-2. Valencia must win by either 2-0 or 3-1 in the return leg next week.

Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon has set a new record for the highest number of consecutive home wins in any European club competition. The Portuguese side defeated Athletic Bilbao by two goals to one. Marcelo Bielsa's men missed several scoring chances before the Portuguese side came from a goal down to win 2-1. Former Liverpool defender, Emiliano Insua and Diego Capel erased Jon Borde's 54th minute goal from the Spaniards.
Gorka Iraizoz saved an early free kick that was taken by Insua in the first half. Van Wolfswinkel missed an absolute chance when he put his shot wide off the goal with the Bilbao keeper well beaten. Llorente also missed guided his header after getting to the end of a good cross from Susaeta as the visitors tried to respond to Sporting's early dominance. Minutes later, Joao Pereira was the next Sporting player to threaten the Spaniards. His shot came off the post before Van Wolfswinkel failed to put the ball into the net.
In the second half, a free kick that was taken by Susaeta was deflected by Insua and Aurtenexte poked the ball into the Sporting net. Amorebieta struck the post after another cross from Susaeta.
In the 76th minute Capel's cross was met by Insua with a flying header that gave the Portuguese side a well-deserved  equaliser. Capel scored the winning goal for the home side when his powerful shot flew past Iraizoz who was in goal for the Spanish outfit. The return leg will be played in Spain next week and a 1-0 win will be enough for the Spaniards to make it to the final of the competition.
