Liverpool's unbeaten run quashed by Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur has ended Liverpool's eight match unbeaten run in the English premier league. The 5th place team defeated the Reds by 2-1 at the White Hart Lane.

The match was played on Wednesday night at a fully packed stadium. Brendan Rodgers and Andreas Villas Boas were formally under Jose Mourinho in 2004.

Aaron Lennon scored the first goal in the 7th minute of action. Gareth Bale made a dazzling run down the left wing before setting up the England international.

In the 16th minute, Bale scored a spectacular free kick that beat Pepe Reina. The Spanish goal keeper was rooted to the same spot.

Prior to the encounter, Liverpool had refused to lose any of their last eight games, but the selection of Stewart Downing and Henderson backfired. The duo of Jonjo Shelvey and Suso would have done better.

Philip Dowd failed to award two clear penalties to Liverpool. Steven Gerrard was pushed down in the penalty box, while Suarez was tripped in the same area later in the second half.
Liverpool's best effort was a goal bound attempt that was cleared off the line by Kyle Walker.

In the second half,Gareth Bale scored an own goal, but that was not enough to guarantee the reigning League cup champions a draw.

A win from either of these two teams in their remaining two matches will condemn Chelsea to Europa League next term. Liverpool have already booked their place in that competition after they defeated Cardiff City in February's League Cup final.
Gary Cahill and David Luiz are the major injury concerns of Roberto Di Matteo. On the other hand, Liverpool doesn't have any fresh injury concerns apart from Lucas Leiva and Charlie Adam that have been on the sidelines for a while.

England Captaincy!

As England prepare for their first match after the departure of former Italian manager, Fabio Capello, Chat Soccer looks at the captaincy issue that was made glamorous under David Beckham.

Chelsea captain,John Terry was stripped of his captain band for the second time in his National team career under Fabio Capello for alleged racist abuse that was levelled against him by Anthony Ferdinand of Queens Park Rangers in a match that was played late last year.

While Liverpool's Luis Suarez was given an eight match ban by the English Football Association, Terry's case was put forward for hearing at the court in July 2012, some weeks after UEFA Euro 2012 in Ukraine and Poland.

The first time the Chelsea skipper was stripped of his captaincy title was when he had an infidelity issue that involved the former girl friend of Wayne Bridge, a former Chelsea player that moved was playing for Manchester City as at that time.
The Italian tactician, Fabio Capello resigned from his England job after the FA's decision to strip John Terry of his captaincy without seeking his consent as the team manger.
England under 21 manager, Stuart Pearce is to lead the Three Lions out at the Wembley Stadium against 2010 FIFA World Cup runners-up, Netherlands in an International friendly that will be played on February 29th,2012.
Several names have been touted as the new replacement for John Terry's role as the captain of the 1966 World Champions. Liverpool's Steven Gerrard recently expressed his desire to get the position for the first time in two years. The Liverpool captain was England's skipper at South Africa 2010. Gareth Barry and Rio Ferdinand are other notable mentions, though the latter has denied been interested in the position.

Whether Gerrard or Barry gets the post, the fact is that the Three Lions need to put their house in order ahead of the European Football showpiece in Ukraine and Poland later this summer.

LIVERPOOL ARE THE NEW CARLING CUP CHAMPIONS.

Gerrard lifts the League Cup trophy.

Liverpool FC defeated Cardiff City 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. The match ended 1-1 at full time before the two sides scored a goal each during the extra time. Mason put the Welsh side ahead after just 18 minutes on the clock to send the travelling Cardiff fans in to wild jubilation. Martin Skrtel equalized for the Reds after 59 minutes. The goal came off a corner kick that was taken by Stewart Downing.

Substitute,Dirk Kuyt appeared to have grabbed a 108th minute winner for the Merseyside club, but with 2 minutes to play, Ben Turner turned the game around with a goal for Cardiff City.
Steven Gerrard missed the first penalty kick of the match and Charlie Adam followed in a similar fashion. Two Cardiff players missed their penalties before Glen Johnson made it 3-2.
Incidentally, Anthony Gerrard, a cousin of the Liverpool captain missed the fianl penalty kick and that was enough for Kenny Dalglish to win his first Carling Cup trophy with the club and Liverpool's first title since their 2006 FA Cup win over West Ham United. Meanwhile, that match was also won by penalties.

Liverpool have now won their last three titles on penalties.
They are: 1. 2005 Champions League 2. 2006 FA Cup 3. 2012 League Cup
This is the 8th League Cup title for Liverpool.
